Friends and Family Share Their Memories

Tribute to Mimi

I am writing this on the night that Mimi passed. Although it's nearly impossible for me to imagine this world without Mimi in it, I am very grateful that she is no longer in pain.

Mimi and I - from the moment we met more than 45 years ago - were soul mates. Over the years, I watched proudly as she proved herself to be a loving, caring, and extremely capable single mom. Only when her children were on the verge of adulthood did she finally let herself fall in love. Mel, of course, was the romantic love of her life and her "rock" from that moment on.

Together, Mimi and Mel became grandparents to - in birth order - the twins, Jackson and Maxwell, and then to Sophia and Taylor, who are two weeks apart. These four children, along with Mitch, Pam, Eve, Gregg, and Lisa were held dearly in the hearts of both Mimi and Mel. Giving new meaning to the word Ima (Hebrew for grandmother), Mimi served as each child's playmate, friend, cheerleader, teacher, fan club president, shopping partner ... and most important, role model.

Most recently, being diagnosed with a devastating illness, Mimi maintained her dignity, courage, positive mindset, and sense of humor. Even this morning, when she said her goodbyes to her children and grandchildren, she gave each of them smiles and love ... asking them to remember her not as she was now, but as she was before. Once again, a role model for the rest of us who will ultimately meet our own mortal challenges.

Mimi lived for love and laughter. In tribute to Mimi, may our love for her remain alive in our hearts, and our memories of her bring smiles to replace the tears we now shed.

Dear, dear Mimi, you will be missed.
