Congratulations to George Robert Pettit, PhD, Regents Professor in Medicinal Chemistry, chairman of the ICAN Scientific Advisory Council who was recognized with a special Arizona State University School of Molecular Sciences Service Sun Devil Award for Service for his 55 years of outstanding research and tireless dedication as a pioneer and pathbreaker in anticancer drug discovery and development of novel anticancer agents.

At this year's Service Award Celebration, Dr. Pettit was given a special video tribute from Ian Gould, President's Professor and Interim Director of ASU's School of Molecular Sciences. The tribute to Dr. Pettit can be seen beginning at 2:48 in the celebration video.

Dr. Pettit, this tribute is so well deserved, and we join all of your colleagues and your many friends worldwide in our deep admiration for your brilliance and your unrelenting pursuit of the best outcomes for cancer patients. Your "h index" quantifying the impact of your publications--being almost a 90--is remarkable. It is a testament to your productivity and contributions to cancer research. We at ICAN have been so blessed to have you as our chairman of our Scientific Advisory Council since 1996.

Because of your unique and diverse discoveries of anticancer drugs isolated from marine life, terrestrial plants, and microorganisms, you and your talented colleagues at the ASU Cancer Research Institute as well as the Pettit Group at ASU have improved survival and quality of life for hundreds of thousands of cancer patients.

Your many friends at ICAN are so very proud of you and all the FDA drug approvals that your unique anticancer drug discovery efforts have led to. We salute you, Dr. Pettit!
